Dick Cheney au Moyen Orient !

Cheney as Dove

US President George Bush, you reported on March 9, is sending his Vice President Dick Cheney to the Middle East to "reassure" the people that America is keen on bringing peace to the region. If George B. continues to act with the same logic, he might send HIV to the region to assure the people that they have nothing to fear from AIDS.

Cheney was the godfather of all the warmongers who brought devastation to the region - from Rumsfeld to Feith to Wolfowitz.

And what is the definite plan for peace that the man is bringing? It is to "isolate" Iran, which, as we all know from past experience, is the first step toward attacking it. This was the message that Bush brought to the region a while ago, but found no takers for. At that time, the carrot was a summit in Annapolis. The summit was held, and Palestinians continue to be killed. Cheney's "mantra" is the perforated road map. The idea is not a new one, but the man's and his nation's contempt for Arabs and Muslims is such that he believes that he would get them to range on his side against anyone.

The problem is not in Bush or Cheney but, as Cassius put it, "in us that we are underlings." They have learned, from experience, that we Arabs and Muslims will not react, no matter how savagely we are kicked around. They may spit on us, but when they come to our lands, we still are ready to polish their boots with our faces. The moral is an old one: Those who are not prepared to take the risk of standing up have no right to expect to be treated with respect.
